REP. DEB WALLACE, (D-17TH DISTRICT WA) REPLY ON VIDEO POKER AND TAXES

Deb Wallace, 17th District, Wa

Deb Wallace, 17th District, Wa

Thank you for your email regarding Washington allowing the use of video poker machines as a way of raising revenue. I appreciate you taking the time to write and welcome your suggestions.

I will tell you that in 2003 the Legislature requested that the Lottery and Gambling Commission examine video lottery terminals and quick draw keno for our state as an option to raise revenue. A report was created and presented to the legislature in 2004, however we ultimately didn’t take action on the matter. Given that the legislature is set to adjourn for this session on Sunday, it’s highly unlikely that this issue will come up this year. However, I do want to assure you that I will keep your comments in mind for future legislative sessions. These are the types of ideas that we need to consider as we struggle to balance our budget, I appreciate you actively sharing your thoughts.

Thank you again for your message Sam, hearing from you helps me represent you here in Olympia. Please don’t hesitate to contact me in the future if you have any additional questions or concerns.
