Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about the public resale of Department of Defense brass ammunition cartridges. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.
As you may know, the Defense Utilization and Marketing Service (DRMS), which operates under the Defense Logistics Agency of the Department of Defense (DOD), is responsible for disposing of used and excess DOD property. This includes identifying materials that may be reutilized by the public without compromising national security. While brass ammunition cartridges have historically been made available for public sale, the DRMS recently revised its criteria for sensitive items and halted the sale of the cartridges. However, upon reviewing the policy relating to military-unique items, the DRMS has removed the cartridges from this list and will release them for public sale.
