This HR is beginning to rear it’s ugly head again but this time on top of the previous concerns that I outlined in a previous post, there is considerable concern that this HR if made into law could be used as a tool to shut down talk radio. How you ask? Well, in reading the HR, it is a direct assault on the 1st Amendment and as stated in Sec. 881 of this HR, “(a) Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person, using electronic means to support severe, repeated, and hostile behavior, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.” It is no stretch whatsoever to see how this HR could and most probably would be used to silence ANY dissenting political voices. As talk radio transcends states boarders, it easily falls into the parameters of this HR. As this administration is apparently doing everything it can to destroy the Constitution and silence any opposition, we must once again contact our Elected Officials in the House of Representatives (Congressmen) and explain to them in no uncertain terms that their political career rests on making the correct voting decision on this issue.
MY LETTER TO MY CONGRESSMAN;
Honorable Congressman Baird:
As the HR 1966 debate is about to begin, I urge you to not support this HR as is because without a doubt, due to its overly broad language and scope, is a direct assault on the 1st Amendment. As is, the language in this HR will allow it to be used as a convenient, draconian political tool to silence opposing views that may be expressed via talk radio. This HR will also indiscriminately criminalize all manners of other communications that is normally protected free speech under the 1st Amendment. If this HR is to be seriously considered, the language, scope and intent must be defined in a more precise, clear and concise manner being mindful of the Constitution and it’s guarantee of protected free speech. I wish to remind you that to a large degree, your job is to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not at every seeming opportunity usurp and work to violate this foundational inviolate document. If you support this HR in it’s current form I will not support you in your future re-election and I will actively work for your opponent to unseat you.
