The Continental Congress. Click the pic for the article.

This article goes into detail and explains the importance of States Rights and why the Constitution was written in such a manner as to limit the Federal Government, giving the bulk of the authority to each state.  That’s the way our Founding Fathers wanted it….  Look how its been bastardized since by both parties….

Philip, Of course this is just speculation, but seeing as how the Continental Congress met in Carpenters Hall which was not built strictly for Congress. Even though there was great debate over issues, these men were friends and afterwards there were always dinners/gatherings and the wives were there also. The Artist has depicted them as Nay Sayers in this painting which in fact they probably were, which is why you see the women waving papers about. So I wouldn’t say the women were actually part of the Continental Congress, they were just voicing their opinion which could have been the case at some of these debates. Our Fore Fathers were great listeners and I can imagine they may consider other voices, unlike today where our so called leaders do what they want.

Anyway back to the issue of States Rights. Today, or should I say the past few decades our government has gotten so corrupt and the laws, regulations and government agencies are out of control. I honestly don’t think any state in the union is a sovereign state with an exception of maybe Texas. And I feel that today there are very very few elected officials that really understand the basic premise of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to even know when the Federal government has over stepped their boundries. Today it’s every man for himself, pay your taxes and don’t get pulled over by any cops unless you want to take a chance of gettin your rear end beat up. Anyway, I have to agree with the Conservative American Vet on this issue.
