BOEHNER: DEBT DEAL WILL INCLUDE NEW TAX REVENUES; My letter to Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler Republican, 3rd District, Washington, on this issue
It is disheartening to read that Majority Leader Boehner has stated that additional tax revenues are now on the table. As my Representative, I sent you to Washington to hold the line against the Democrats attempts at further bankrupting and taxing the American people, at all costs. It is a fallacy to believe that it is okay to tax corporate America too. Any and all taxes are passed on to the consumer and the result is just inflation and higher prices for whatever commodity is taxed. We as a nation are at a crossroads and we conservatives expect you to turn right, not left on all issues. The left must be the party to bend, as they mistakenly expect the conservative right to do. As a voter, I can tell you that if the Republicans do not stick to holding the tide and keeping this nation from sinking any further, I would think that the Representative who acquiesce to the Left, will find their next election cycle very tough and difficult as they will have to answer up to their Constituents.

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Postal Reform Act. It is an honor to represent the people of Southwest Washingtonand I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) continues to provide Americans with an invaluable service obligation to homes and businesses across the country, ensuring that mail is delivered in an affordable and timely manner. The Postal Service faces significant, long-term financial pressures and budget shortfalls caused by reduced mail volume, revenues, and the burden of prefunding retiree health benefits. It is important to note that the USPS is subject to federal government oversight, but the USPS supports itself through the sales of postal services and does not receive taxpayer dollars.
The Postal Reform Act would create the Postal Service Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance Authority to restructure the USPS and reduce its costs. It would also create the Commission on Postal Reorganization to review the USPS network and infrastructure and recommend closures and consolidations, which would go into effect unless rejected by Congress. The goal of this legislation is to provide structural and financial reforms to the USPS to cut costs.
The Act would be the most fundamental reform of the USPS since it was created from the former Post Office Department in 1971. As introduced, I do have several concerns . For example, one of the provisions authorizes an additional $10 billion in borrowing authority from the U.S. Treasury. Another concern is the Act does not address some core issues necessary to return the Postal Service to financial stability, including the need to decrease or suspend the current mandates requiring retiree health benefit pre-payments, which costs the Postal Service $5.5 billion annually until 2016.
While I recognize the need to preserve services that many Americans consider essential, such as six-day delivery and universal postal coverage, we must make sure the USPS makes the changes necessary to survive. I am committed to working with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that the Postal Service fulfills its obligation as well as to help improve the Postal Service’s efficiency.

Thank you for contacting me about the Postal Reform Act of 2011. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
As you know, the U.S. Postal Service is an independent, federally chartered organization. The Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 eliminated the U.S. Post Office Department and replaced it with the Postal Service, which is chartered to perform as a business enterprise with the primary mission of delivering the mail to all parts of the country at uniform rates. The Postal Service is also mandated to operate on a self-supporting, break-even basis, with particular emphasis on restraining postal rate increases. The Postal Service has been subject to many of the recent financial and economic pressures experienced by businesses, including significant competition in the non-letter mail services it provides, as well recent decreases in letter mail due to the upsurge in electronic communications. As a quasi-government entity, the Postal Service has several important advantages over its competitors including a letter-mail monopoly and a tax-free status. However, the Postal Service also faces significant challenges that its competitors do not because it is required to provide service to all areas of the country. On June 23, 2011, Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) introduced the Postal Reform Act of 2011 (H.R. 2309). This legislation would implement structural reforms of the Postal Service with the goals of reducing costs and inefficiencies. This includes moving the Postal Service to five-day delivery, allowing postal rate increases for underperforming products, and amending current law that governs the closure process for postal facilities. These reforms would be initiated by two new oversight bodies, one of which would have the ability to modify existing collective bargaining contracts if the Postal Service were to default on financial obligations to the federal government. H.R. 2309 was referred to the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, where is it currently awaiting further review. I believe it is important that the USPS provides service to all Americans in a timely fashion. The USPS does have an obligation to conduct business in a fiscally responsible fashion that will optimize all services, including drop-off and delivery, for consumers. Please be assured I will take your comments into account should I have the opportunity to consider H.R. 2309 or similar legislation in the U.S. Senate.

Really?! Is this what we have become? I see story after story of this same type from all around the US and it both angers and frightens me. I get angry over the fact that these over-zealous Law Enforcement types are spending our hard-earned tax dollars on harassing little kids who are doing nothing more that what we did as kids. If even for a brief while, experience a sense of entrepreneurship that made America great. Do these idiots get a huge sense of satisfaction when they shut these kids down? I’m beginning to think that they do and that is the frightening part. These over-zealous Cops, like the one who took the cameras in a previous post, are endangering what it means to be an American, and I think they like that. It is these types of people who must be weeded out and fired. It is these types that will break down your door on the orders of some corrupt politicians, simply because you may have said or written something they don’t like. Gee, maybe I need to watch my back…….
Why doesn’t this development surprise me. This is why I didn’t and will NEVER buy a Chevy by any name, ever. This company desrves to have America turn its back on it. After all, it turned its back on their customers. I hope GM stock tanks.
